About Lake Wedowee

 Lake Wedowee is located directly east of Birmingham, Alabama on the upper Tallapoosa River and is considered one of the cleanest lakes in Alabama.  It’s official name is Harris Reservoir and it stretches 24 miles and covers 10,660 acres of Randolph and Clay Counties.  Wedowee's heritage is deeply rooted in Native American history.   The name “Wedowee”, means “old Water” in the Muscogee Creek Language and was named by a Muscogee Creek Indian Chief, whose village was located nearby.  In addition to a rich cultural heritage, the lake and surrounding wilderness offer outdoor enthusiasts a bounty of recreational activities such as fishing, water skiing, and boating.  It also offers relaxation beside a beautiful lake and natural landscape.  Experience Lake Wedowee today!

Talladega National Forest

The southern edge of the Appalachian Mountains is in Alabama, in the Talladega National Forest.  This is an achingly beautiful area of rugged mountains, forests, waterfalls, and streams.  The Talladega's profusion of wildlife is exceptional.  Squirrels, rabbits, grouse, white-tailed deer, turkeys, and bobcats live there year round in abundance. 

Lake Wedowee Arts & Music Fest

 The Lake Wedowee Arts & Music Festival sponsored by the Randolph County Chamber of Commerece will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Wedowee Kiwanis Park in Wedowee, AL. There will be a show and sale of antiques, collectibles, food vendors, pottery, art work, antique tractors, crafts, fun for the children and much more.

Flat Rock Park

Flat Rock State park is a beautiful day use park.  If offers, swimming, picnic areas, fishing, and miles of nature trails.  To live up to its's name, it boasts 25 acres of natural granite for everyone to explore.

Historic Butlers Mill & Restaurant

The Historic Butlers Grist mill is located on the banks of the Tallapoosa River. It was built 1881 and has been operational ever since.  The mill operates seasonally Oct.–Apr. The Restaurant serves delicious southern style cuisine and there is a Seafood buffet on the weekends.  The gift shop is sure to offer something for everyone.

Talladega Superspeedway

Talladega Superspeedway is the biggest, fastest, most competitive motorsports facility in the world. Records for both speed and competition have been established at Talladega.  Talladega Superspeedway can accommodate more than 143,000-seated guests and thousands more in the 212-acre infield. The track offers van tours to visitors daily during working hours except on weeks around events. Adjacent to the track is the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum, which is also open daily.

Cheaha Resort State Park

Located in Clay and Cleburne Counties, Cheaha State Park is the pinnacle of natural beauty and awe in Alabama. Surrounded by the Talladega National Forest, this foothill of the Appalachian Mountains holds the reputation of the highest point in Alabama. Standing 2,407 ft. above sea level, it is no wonder why the local Creek Indians named this place “Chaha,” meaning high place.
